Standing up for Leeds over road closure

I know people are really worried about the 6 month closure of Upper Street in Leeds from July to January.

Leeds has had more than its fair share of roadworks recently, and I can understand residents pulling their hair out about the idea of another six months.

20,000 more officers on our streets!

Keeping people safe is the first job of any government.

That's why back in our 2019 manifesto we pledged to put 20,000 more police officers on our streets by March 2023 - a target we were determined to hit.

Boost for buses and community transport

Getting around locally can be tough without a car.

Not only are there fewer services, but they're often quite expensive too. With the current squeeze on household incomes a bus fare of £5 or more can put a real dent in your weekly budget.

Sticking up for St Mary's children's centre

Maidstone Apprenticeship Fair bigger than ever!

Our Maidstone Apprenticeship Fair is always one of the highlights of my year.

I host it with 6 of my Kent MP colleagues to bring together local students with all kinds of amazing apprenticeship opportunities. Last Friday it returned for its fifth year, and it was bigger than ever,

Winning Litter Angels poster takes pride of place

It’s one of my biggest bugbears seeing litter lying around locally.

We live in such a beautiful part of the world, and seeing it spoiled by a thoughtless few is so disappointing.

Could care be the right career for you?

The care sector can be a wonderful place to work.

I see this all the time. As well as being Faversham and Mid Kent’s MP I’m also a minister in the Health and Social Care Department, and one of the things I’m tasked with is overseeing the government’s work on social care.
