Keeping Kent moving

Brenley Corner

Whether it’s the school run or commute to work, travel is part of life for many of us. I’m determined to make these daily journeys better for people in Faversham and Mid Kent.

I’m continuing to campaign for the investment we need in our infrastructure – including road improvement schemes like Brenley Corner, motorway re-surfacing, and a relief road for Maidstone.

We also need infrastructure that will help people go greener – with more electric charging points in our towns and villages, safer pavements and cycle lanes, and better buses.

Ban lorry fly-parking

Lorries parking on residential roads, lay-bys, verges and other inappropriate places is a blight on parts of Kent. I'm campaigning for more parking spaces and tougher fines when drivers break the rules.

Making train travel more accessible

I'm determined to improve people's experience of rail travel in Kent. This includes fairer fares so people have the option of flexible season tickets and proper compensation when something goes wrong. We also need to make our trains and stations more user friendly for people who are less mobile, including disabled people and parents with pushchairs.

Like many of you, I’ve been stuck in traffic because of Operation Brock on the M20.It puts huge pressure across the road network in Kent and I know HGVs try to avoid the queue by rat-running on roads like the A20 and A251.

Unpicking the lock for Faversham's swing bridge

Friday, 22 March, 2024
I’m working hard to get Faversham’s swing bridge back up and running. Last month I met with the Maritime Minister Lord Gower, and recently I brought together representatives from KCC, Faversham Town Council, the Faversham Society, the Faversham Creek Trust and the Department for Transport to discus

All aboard the Detling shopper bus!

Monday, 29 January, 2024
Last Friday I took a ride on the Detling Shopper Bus – a new minibus service between Bearsted and Maidstone. Back in 2022 I campaigned for an increase in community transport funding, after we lost several bus routes which simply weren’t getting enough passengers to keep them going. Kent County Cou

Thursday, 25 January, 2024
Last week I had the huge privilege of welcoming the Roads Minister Guy Opperman to Brenley Corner to show him first-hand the improvements we need to see at the junction on a busy Monday morning. The Prime Minister made a commitment to upgrading Brenley Corner back in November, and I am pushing to g

Keeping up the fight for Faversham's swing bridge

Thursday, 7 December, 2023
I’m working hard to get Faversham’s swing bridge back up and running. Local campaigners and I are determined that Peel Ports should pay for the repairs, and we’re asking for the Department for Transport’s help to make that happen. Last Friday I brought together representatives from Kent County Cou

The good news just keeps coming for Kent's roads at the moment.  This week saw the government announce an £8.3 billion long term plan to resurface more than 5,000 miles of road across the UK.

Success for ticket office campaign!

Tuesday, 31 October, 2023
It might be hard to remember the last time you bought a ticket from the ticket office from the station. The introduction of ticket machines and e-tickets have led to faster and more convenient journeys for millions of passengers up and down the country, and for lots of us it's only when confronted

No passenger left behind

Wednesday, 16 August, 2023
Modernising our railway is absolutely essential.  It's our ticket to safer, faster and cheaper journeys, and I'm really excited by everything the government's doing to drive it forward.  However, plans to close ticket offices in stations have left lots of local passengers worried.
