Maidstone Borough Council’s new Local Plan will determine the future of development in our community for the next decade.

It’s crucial that we get these important decisions right and that the views of local residents are heard by decision makers.

Following several rounds of consultation – which I took part in – Maidstone Borough Council submitted their new Local Plan proposals for approval.

Ahead of a decision being made, I’ve written to the Planning Inspectorate to express the views of local residents directly to planning officers.

I’ve stressed that any new homes need to come with improvements to infrastructure – including a Leeds-Langley relief road to ease traffic problems in these villages.

We also need homes that are designed to meet the challenges of the future – including making sure every development aligns with our net zero goals. This is not only important for reducing emissions but also for making homes cheaper to heat.

I’ve also stressed the huge concerns local residents have about the two proposed ‘garden villages’ at Lenham Heath and Lidsing. In both cases, the proposed developments would totally change the look and feel of the local area – as well as putting a strain on local infrastructure and services.

I’ll continue to do everything I can to give local residents a voice in these important decisions.
