Helen with winning Christmas card
The winning Christmas card design

I’m delighted to announce the winner of my Christmas card competition this year is Alice Jeffery from Roseacre Junior School.

The winning design will feature on cards seen by people across the local area and one has even been sent to the Prime Minister.

I invited all schools in the constituency to take part in the annual competition. Over 100 drawings were sent in, but Alice’s design impressed me the most.

I know this is a hugely challenging time for schools, but I’m glad that so many children were still able to take part in the competition this year. The standard of entries was as high as ever.

Thank you to all those teachers who encouraged their pupils to take part, and to the children who submitted such excellent designs. Choosing the winning design is always a difficult task.

I liked the inclusion of the rainbow flag on Alice’s design as a tribute to people who continue to be on the frontline of this pandemic and those who will be hard at work over Christmas caring for us.

I would like to wish everyone in Faversham and Mid Kent a peaceful Christmas and a healthy, happy new year.

A good school place for every child

Our children deserve the best education this country has to offer. We have many excellent and good schools in Kent, but it’s becoming harder for those schools to maintain the standard of education they are offering because of the way they are funded nationally.

Councillors and volunteers are playing a crucial role in our response to the coronavirus.

I’ve been truly impressed at the scale and speed of the response here in Faversham and Mid Kent, from our County Council to parishes and community groups, charities and local businesses.
