Latest stats show that over 3,000 young people across Kent have benefitted from our Kickstart scheme.

It was great to be back at the West Faversham Community Centre last week – talking to young people about how the work placements provided by Kickstart are helping them find jobs.

The first steps after leaving school are crucial but they can also be daunting. Speaking to ‘Kickstarters’ in Faversham and Maidstone, it’s clear the programme has given them opportunities they might never have dreamt of.

I was also pleased to present Elijah Waller with his Try Angle award for his commitment to personal development and contribution to the West Faversham Community Centre.

The Community Centre does an incredible job supporting people in our town, especially young adults and teenagers. This help has been needed more than ever during the pandemic.

Now I’m working with DWP and supporting the Community Centre to set up a Youth Hub to take the support they offer to the next level. This will help more young people find a job as we come out of the pandemic and give them the chance to be part of our economic recovery.

I’ll continue to do everything I can to make sure our Plan for Jobs benefits people locally.

Funding boost for local schools

Monday, 16 May, 2022

I’m delighted that two local schools in Faversham and Mid Kent are getting funding to upgrade their buildings.

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and Sheldwich Primary School have both been successful in the latest round of funding from the Condition Improvement Fund (CIP).
