Helen and the team at Faversham underpass

As anyone who’s been through it recently will know, Faversham’s underpass desperately needs some love and attention.

People use this route every day to get between The Mall and the town centre, and for too long it's been blighted by flooding, litter, and graffiti.

I've contacted Network Rail who own the underpass multiple times in recent years asking them to clean it, and managed to get the graffiti painted over last year. But we needed a longer term solution.

That's why late last year I assembled a local team, including representatives from West Faversham Community Centre, Faversham Town Council and the Faversham Society to come up with a solution.

Over the last few month my team and I have been working on a plan, and we’ve now won a multi-thousand pound bid to restore the underpass.

The funding will pay for a full deep clean, and commissioning local artist Graham Upton to install a mural celebrating the town’s history.

The underpass belongs to everyone, and we want local residents to have their say on the design. We’re hosting a public meeting on Thursday 11th April in the Guildhall at 7pm so that people can put their ideas to Graham. Please do come along and have your say.

Faversham has the most rich and wonderful history, and this is the perfect cavass to celebrate it. I can’t wait to make this a space we can finally be proud of
