On Easter Saturday I called into Cobtree Young Farmers Club.

Farming is a big part of our local economy and at the heart of rural communities across Faversham and Mid Kent.

Young Farmers Clubs do a fantastic job in getting young people interested in farming – they’re not only a lot of fun but also provide a springboard to a career in farming and the agricultural sector.

This is no exception at Cobtree Young Farmers. When I visited, club members were waiting for a visit from the Easter Bunny! But there was plenty of work to do in the meantime with barns being mucked out, lambs being fed, and pigs hosed down in the spring sunshine.

It was great to meet so many young people passionate about farming and looking to pursue this as a career through our local colleges and further afield.

After being elected to Parliament, I set up the All Party Parliamentary Group for Fruit and Vegetable Farmers, which continues to do valuable work.

I’m helping local hop growers to get the support they need as we recover from Covid. I’m also doing everything I can to make sure farmers have access to the seasonal workers they need at harvest time.

I'll continue to stand up for our local farmers in any way I can.

A greener and cleaner place to live

We have some beautiful countryside in Faversham and Mid Kent, from the rolling North Downs to the marshes around Faversham.

I will always stand up for Kent’s farmers, and work with all of our local land managers in helping to create an environment where nature can thrive.

We need to take water capacity seriously

Tuesday, 9 August, 2022

One of the concerns I hear most from people about new housing is the impact on local infrastructure – from roads to drainage.

I know from the emails and letters I receive just how much local residents want to see water quality improved and an end to localised flooding.
