The Government’s Fruit and Vegetable Aid Scheme helps growers in Faversham and Mid Kent with storage, processing and new varieties of crop. It’s scheduled to end in December so I’m pushing for its extension but so far, the Minister has failed to commit to this.

Our growers need long-term security, not a lack of clarity from the Government. Between this and the changes to Inheritance Tax, Employers’ National Insurance Contributions, and the National Minimum Wage – the Government are squeezing farmers hard.

Labour are putting at risk the future of horticultural businesses across the UK, and the livelihoods of growers in Kent.
