Petition: Save Our Winter Fuel Payments

Helen talking to residents about the Winter Fuel Payment cuts at the Painters Forstal Community Hall

Our pensioners can't go cold this winter. It's wrong to make them choose between heating and eating.

Yet that will be their choice if Labour scrap Winter Fuel Payments for 10 million pensioners, who will also face the biggest energy price increase on record. This was not in their manifesto and they have not done a full Impact Assessment. This means they don't know just how bad it will be for over 18,000 pensioners in Faversham and Mid Kent who will lose out on their payment this year.

Not surprisingly I’ve been inundated with people contacting me worried sick about this.

I voted against it, as did many MPs. But unfortunately it was not enough to overturn the Government’s huge majority. So I am demanding answers from ministers in Parliament. The Government must come clean and admit exactly how their choices will impact our older people.

To govern is to choose and Labour have made a political choice to take money away from pensioners to give pay rises to highly paid public sector workers like train drivers who earn £65,000 plus. This is a choice they didn’t tell you about when they asked for your vote.

To help me in my fight against this cruel decision, scroll down to sign my Save Our Winter Fuel Payments petition.

I'll be presenting this petition to the Chancellor and the more people who back our petition – the harder it will be for Labour to ignore us.

Support and advice

I know many have struggled with the recent rise in the cost of living. But for some families, even doing everything right, it has become increasingly hard to make ends meet. That’s why it's so important that people are claiming the support they're entitled to.
