This New Year is an exciting moment for our country.
It’s a time to move on from past divisions, and be optimistic about the future.
Our Parliament has new energy and purpose to deliver on people’s priorities.
Our businesses have confidence to invest, and wages are rising.
Our communities are moving on from the arguments and anger of the last few years.
Whilst there will always be differences of opinion, we need to disagree with each other respectfully again.
I know there are still many people who feel left behind. The election result will not solve all our problems, but a Government with a working majority means we can focus on making life better for people and levelling up opportunities across the country. That’s exactly what the Prime Minister wants to do.
I’m looking forward to getting back to Westminster and working hard for people in Faversham and Mid Kent.
I’m particularly impressed by the care and dedication of our emergency services at this time of year. Thank you to everyone who’s been working tirelessly over Christmas and New Year to keep us safe and well - particularly helping people who’ve been flooded. The work of repairing homes and businesses needs to start straight away.
There’s so much to look forward to in the year ahead; from the Open Championship coming to Kent to building a new relationship with Europe. 2020 is a year full of opportunities.
I wish everyone a very happy New Year.
