New Art and Technology Block will help pupils achieve their potential

It was a huge privilege to open the new Art and Technology Block at The Abbey School in Faversham earlier this month.

This fantastic new facility will help give pupils at the school the best possible place to learn and put the school on a strong footing for the future.

The £6.8 million building project was part of the Government’s Priority Schools Building Project 2. Huge congratulations to everyone involved – particularly for managing to complete the project during the pandemic.

I’m pleased the school has also received funding from the Government's Condition Improvement Fund to help repair existing buildings.

I know this has been a tough year for teachers, pupils, and parents. Like many parents, I had children at home for parts of the last two school years. Helping young people catch up on time away from the classroom is a top priority as we recover from Covid.

The Government has already provided £3 billion for catch up in education, on top of funding to support home learning during the pandemic.

This new building will help give the school and wider community a strong foundation for recovery from the pandemic.

Along with fairer funding for schools, this is another step towards helping all young people achieve their potential.

We need to take water capacity seriously

One of the concerns I hear most from people about new housing is the impact on local infrastructure – from roads to drainage.

I know from the emails and letters I receive just how much local residents want to see water quality improved and an end to localised flooding.
