This month marks Kemi Badenoch’s first anniversary as Leader of the Conservative Party and of His Majesty’s Opposition.
Under Kemi’s leadership the Party is rebuilding itself on the foundations of Conservative principles: responsibility, fairness, competence and pride in our nation.
We are presenting ourselves as a serious alternative to the failing Labour Government by setting out our plans for a stronger economy and stronger borders. We have also set out detailed, costed policies to cut waste, lower taxes, control immigration and reward work.
The Conservative Party is also an effective opposition. Fighting hard for you in Parliament we have forced:
- the Government to hold a national statutory inquiry into rape gangs
- the Government to stop the cruel Winter Fuel Payment cut
- the resignation of Angela Rayner after the Prime Minister failed to find the backbone to do the right thing
While we have led the:
- opposition to the Chagos Surrender Deal at every step of the way
- fight to protect farmers from the Family Farm Tax
Our plan for a stronger economy and stronger borders in includes:
- Abolishing stamp duty entirely on primary residences
- Cutting business rates for retail, hospitality and leisure
- Making £47 billion in savings from public spending
- Introducing a new Golden Economic Rule where for every pound saved, at least half will go to reduce the deficit and the rest will go on cutting taxes or spending to boost the economy
- Cutting energy bills by £165 with our Cheap Power Plan, axing the Carbon Tax and old renewable subsidies
- Ensuring that no one who has entered our country illegally will ever be able to get asylum or make any other protection claim in this country
- Deporting all illegal entrants and all foreign criminals
- Withdrawing from the ECHR and the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (ECAT) and repeal the Human Rights Act
- Hiring 10,000 extra police officers.
"I’ve spent this year giving the country a serious alternative to Labour’s weakness: a plan for a stronger economy and stronger borders. The Conservatives have set out detailed, costed policies to cut waste, lower taxes, control immigration and reward work. We’ve shown how to fix welfare, stop the boats, cut energy bills and make work pay again.’" - Kemi Badenoch
