Catapult attacks must be stopped.
That’s why I am calling on Maidstone and Swale Borough Councils to introduce Borough-wide Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) banning them in public spaces.
Lots of people contact me about catapult attacks and many have commented on my previous Facebook posts about doing more to stop them. Although some people see them as little more than a kids toy, they cause serious injury and criminal damage. My visit to Columbines Wildlife Care earlier this year brought home to me just how many animals and birds are being killed and injured with them. We need to send a strong message that harming people, animals and property with catapults will no longer be tolerated.
Borough-wide PSPOs which ban catapults in public spaces would mean anyone over the age of 16 who fails to hand over their catapult to a council or police officer when asked to do so would commit an offence punishable with a £100 fixed penalty notice, which rises to £1,000 if it goes to court.
If you have any other ideas about what we can do to stop catapult attacks – please let me know.
