Keeping Kent Moving

Helen at Lenham station.

Travel is part of life for many of us. Yet too many people in Faversham and Mid Kent are fed up with slow, unreliable and difficult journeys - whether it’s the school run, the dash to the shops or the commute to work. Congested main roads, unsafe country lanes, patchy bus services, frequent roadworks, slow trains and the loss of rail links all make day-to-day travel harder than it should be.

That’s why I’m fighting to keep Kent moving, whether that be making our country lanes safer, fighting for bus routes, arguing for better maintained roads and fewer closures for roadworks, campaigning for an upgrade to Bluebell Hill, or pressing for more and faster rail routes including the restoration of train services to France from to Kent.

Sir Richard Branson's Response

Wednesday, 3 December, 2025
I wrote to Sir Richard Branson to welcome the news that Virgin Rail has been approved to operate trains from England to France. I was clear: trains leaving London must stop at Ashford and Ebbsfleet, and I offered him my full support in achieving this.

Safer Country Lanes - November 2025

Monday, 10 November, 2025
What you have told me about how safe you feel on our country lanes…“Speeding on country lanes is a huge safety problem for everyone and it seems to be getting worse and worse. I used to walk my children to our village school but had to stop this after someone nearly hit my child’s pram.

Encouraging news on continental travel from Ashford and Ebbsfleet

Monday, 3 November, 2025
When the Eurostar gave up stopping at Ashford and Ebbsfleet during the pandemic we all thought it was temporary.  Five years on, despite meetings and letters and lobbying, Eurostar's managers are still dragging their feet rather than commit to stopping in Kent again.

Do you support an upgrade to Blue Bell Hill?

News on Operation Brock

Tuesday, 21 January, 2025
Like many of you, I’ve been stuck in traffic because of Operation Brock on the M20.It puts huge pressure across the road network in Kent and I know HGVs try to avoid the queue by rat-running on roads like the A20 and A251.
